Contest Entry - Helena

Bio

Helena was born in a small village next to a tall mountain.  She grew up in a mansion high above the village she was born in.  It was very isolated where the mansion was, so she didn't get to know a lot of people.  All of her schooling was done in the mansion by a private tutor.  Helena has an adventurous spirit.  Even though her parents forbade it, she would always go explore the mountains, and enjoy the small sense of freedom she had.  Helena grew up a very lonely life.  She had no friends, and her parents never really paid any attention to her, in fact, she thought the maid was her mother until she was seven.

Backstory

One day, when Helena was on her usual hike, she noticed something was going on in the village below her.  Curiosity took hold, and she made her way down the tall mountain.  When she arrived, she noticed that the village was having an annual get together, and, knowing her parents would be too busy to notice her gone, she stayed and made herself a few friends.  Since then, every day after her tutoring and her parents started their work, she would make the long trip down the mountain and meet her new (and first) friends at a specific spot in the village.  But, after losing track of time and staying out longer than usual, Helena came home to her raving mad parents waiting at the door.  After some interrogation, Helena told her parents everything, and they were fuming.  Eventually, her parents put locks on the outside of the doors and windows, and they were the only ones who had the keys.  Helena lived with it, for a while, but she started to miss her sense of freedom, and her friends.  So one night, when her parents were sleeping, she took the keys, unlocked the front door, and then locked it behind her; taking the keys with.  She made it down the mountain, and, to her luck, her friends were having a late night hang out.  They saw her, then instantly ran up to her and started asking her questions about where she's been and things like that.  She told them about what her parents did, and then what she did.  Her friends were in-shock, for a moment, and then one of them invited her to stay at her place for a while, Helena gladly accepted.  While staying at her friend's house, Helena finally felt a euphoric happiness she had never truly felt before.  After a week or so, her parents found a way out, and then they went to the village and found Helena with her friends.  They scolded at her, and yelled at her, they even came close to hitting her, but, instead, they decided to disown her, and leave her with her friends.  That was the best thing they had ever done for her.
